The main event of UFC on Fuel 6 (or UFC Macau, or UFC Macao, or UFC on Fuel: Franklin vs. Le, or...) is an intriguing fight. Longtime UFC favorite Rich Franklin (29-6 MMA; 13-5 UFC) faces former Strikeforce champion Cung Le (8-2 MMA; 1-1 UFC). This five round fight will be contested in the Middleweight division. UFC on Fuel airs bright and early Saturday morning, with the main card beginning at 9:00 a.m. ET / 6:00 a.m. PT.

As tends to be the case with Franklin's fights these days, this is a fun, if relatively meaningless fight. You have here two combat sports veterans, though Franklin obviously has more MMA experience, while Le's history is more in Sanshou. Neither man is going to be a title contender again, but both put on entertaining fights and still have a lot of value to the company. There are a lot of ways this could go, but I expect it will come down to Franklin's hands vs. Le's kicks. Good main event here to welcome the UFC to China.

How do these two stack up?

Franklin: 38 years old | 6'1" | 76" reach
Le: 40 years old | 5'10" | 69" reach

What have these two done recently?

Franklin: W - Wanderlei Silva (UD) | L - Forrest Griffin (UD) | W - Chuck Liddell (KO)
Le: W - Patrick Cote (UD) | L - Wanderlei Silva (TKO) | W - Scott Smith (KO)

How did these two get here?

Rich "Ace" Franklin has had an odd career lately. The former UFC Middleweight champion has been sort of adrift in the upper ranks of the UFC for over 5 years now, struggling to find his home since being smashed by Anderson Silva. He's faced nothing but top level fighters, and had a tough time finding consistency against such a high level of opposition. He hasn't been able to put together more than a 2 fight win streak since losing the title. For this fight, he returns to Middleweight for the first time since facing Travis Lutter at UFC 83.

More on UFC on Fuel 6: Franklin vs. Le

Cung Le is an extremely popular fighter in the California martial arts scene thanks to his years of experience in Sanshou. He made the transition to MMA in 2006 as one of the founding stars of Strikeforce. He was the company's Middleweight champion, winning the belt from Frank Shamrock in one of their biggest fights. Since that 2008 win, he's been occupied with a film career (including a current role in The Man With the Iron Fists) and his MMA career has seemed more like a side project at times. With a growing film career and a UFC win under his belt, and at age 40, I can't imagine Le has too many fights left in him.

Why should you care?

So sue me, I think Cung Le is a blast. He brings a fun, unique style to MMA that I really enjoy watching. Franklin provides a solid foil as well. This should be a good one.
