Just a couple of weeks after we found out about Matt Riddle's marijuana suspension following UFC 149, the welterweight has stepped up on short notice once again to take a fight. It will come in just three weeks at UFC 154. UFC.com has the news:
With a knee injury sidelining Stephen Thompson from his UFC 154 bout with Besam Yousef, longtime welterweight standout Matt Riddle has answered the call, stepping up to meet the Swedish fighter at the Bell Centre in Montreal on November 17.
I know that suspensions don't mean a lot to the UFC and even guys like Chris Leben are fighting right after their bids are up, but they couldn't find any other welterweight here? Maybe one that didn't come off suspension ten days ago? Just a thought.
Anyway, Riddle (6-3, 1 NC) finished Chris Clements in the third round of their UFC 149 bout, but the result was overturned after the test. Riddle earned a $60,000 bonus for submission of the night...even though he officially has no submission wins on his resume. Yousef (6-1), lost by submission to Simeon Thoresen in his only UFC bout to date.
The fight will take place on the Facebook portion of the preliminary card.
