UFC Light Heavyweight champ Jon Jones has been quite vocal about his disinterest in fighting Middleweight champ Anderson Silva. As recently as July, Jones was saying that both champs had too much to lose to make the fight worthwhile, saying "I don't want to crack on his greatness and I don't want him cracking on my greatness."

Now that UFC president Dana White seems to have the fight on the top of his wish list and since Anderson Silva has softened his tone just a touch, it appears Jones is reconsidering, per MMA Fighting:

"I respect [Silva] a lot," Jones said to Brazilian outlet Correio Braziliense. "As I said several times, I do not want to be the guy who beat Anderson, and do not want to be the guy who lost to him. Anderson is a great champion, I'm a great champion. We both..." At that point Jones trailed off, before picking back up. "I don't know. I don't know.

"I'm not saying that the fight will not happen. It can happen. But it's not something I'm chasing.

"I don't believe that I need to fight with Anderson to be the best in the world," Jones concluded.

There are a lot of things that still have to happen for a Jones-Silva superfight to take place. Welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre is apparently first in line for a Silva Superfight but GSP could lose to Carlos Condit at UFC 154 in November which would expedite a Jones-Silva match. But if GSP beats Condit and all parties agree to Anderson vs. GSP, then Silva would have to win that fight, which could conceivably take place as soon as next Spring.

Jones of course has to get past Chael Sonnen next April 27, after their coaching stint on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter before he can think about any Super Fights.

But keep your fingers crossed people, a Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva bout in 2013 would be pretty close to MMA nirvana.
