Tom Wright: UFC to host up to five events in Canada in 2013 and 2014

The UFC will apparently be heading north of the border a bunch of times in 2013 and 2014. Canada has been one of the biggest markets for the promotion, and it's not surprising that they'd like to host more events here. UFC director of Canadian operations Tom Wright confirmed at least four shows for Canada in 2013 on a recent radio show appearance (via Sportsnet):

"We're not that far away from announcing our full 2013 schedule," Wright told (Showdown) Joe Ferraro on UFC Central Radio on Sportsnet 590 The Fan late Thursday. "I can tell you that there's going to be at least four events in Canada and you know that two of them are going to be in Montreal and Toronto because we've announced those two cities as annual tentpole locations for the UFC in 2013 and 2014."

...

"There's going to be at least two cities that may surprise a few people when we come out with our schedule and right now we're looking at an additional three, so a total of five events in Canada, for 2014."

Wright's recent push to get Canada to change the criminal code in order to legalize MMA appears to have been successful, with a bill being introduced in the house of commons earlier this week that's expected to pass. That's more good news for the UFC, as it will eliminate any lingering issues with legitimacy in certain areas they'd like to visit.

He also mentioned that one of the four events in 2013 could be an Ultimate Fighter Finale, as the UFC has been kicking around a TUF Canada show for a while now. All in all, it's very good news for Canadian MMA fans.
