Glover Teixeira: 'I would bring the fight to Jon Jones and get that title'

UFC newcomer Glover Teixeira knows he's not near the Light Heavyweight championship yet. But, he says if he got the opportunity, he would take the title from Jon Jones.

Glover Teixeira has been the name on many MMA fans' lips as the next big thing in the UFC Light Heavyweight division. Teixeira made his UFC debut coming off a 15 fight win streak with 15 finishes. He continued the trend with a quick submission of journeyman Kyle Kingsbury at UFC 146. Since then, he's been heralded as a top talent and future contender. The argument has been evidenced by proven fighters like Shogun Rua and Rashad Evans refusing to fight the lesser known combatant.

MMA Interviews asked Teixeira what he would do with a shot against Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones:

There are a lot of tough guys, but I think I bring it to Jon Jones. I'm not quite qualified to say something like that yet. I have one fight in the UFC and have more to prove. If they offered me the fight I would say yes, bring it to him and get that title.

For now, Glover is at least a couple of fights away from a title shot. Kingsbury and his UFC 153 opponent Fabio Maldonado aren't names that create a contender. The fight with Maldonado on Saturday will be his first on a PPV main card. That kind of exposure may be enough to put him into Dana White's oft-cited "mix".
