Miguel Torres makes WSOF debut against Marlon Moraes

Former WEC bantamweight champion and UFC fighter Miguel Torres now has his opponent for his World Series of Fighting debut this November.

Paul Abell-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Having recently announced the headlining fight of Andrei Arlovski vs. Devin Cole, World Series of Fighting now has its co-main event. This was buried over the weekend due to the UFC card, but WSOF announced that former #1 bantamweight and WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres would make his promotional debut against Marlon Moraes. Sherdog has the story:

Miguel Torres now has an opponent for his World Series of Fighting debut, as promotion officials announced Friday that the former World Extreme Cagefighting bantamweight titlist will lock horns with Marlon Moraes on Nov. 3 at WSOF 1.

The bout is expected to serve as the evening's co-main event and takes place at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Torres was released by the UFC for the 2nd time in less than a year following an unexplained disciplinary action, aided by his violent KO loss against Michael McDonald. After Frank Mir hailed him as one of the best fighters pound-for-pound, Torres has gone just 3-4 in his last 7 in the WEC and UFC. He's however still one of the best bantamweights in the world and is one of the big signings for WSOF.

Moraes is a 24-year-old Floridian with an 8-4-1 record, but he started his career as a featherweight before making the 135 move this past April. His debut in his new weight class was a success, knocking out Jarrod Card in 48 seconds. He's fought professionally since 2007, and has only gone the distance 3 times (winning twice and drawing once). His last loss was at 145 against former WEC fighter Deividas Taurosevicius.

World Series of Fighting 1 will air live on NBC Sports Network and features the fights I've mentioned plus additional confirmed bouts of Gerald Harris vs. Josh Burkman and Ronys Torres vs. Brian Cobb.
