Chad Griggs was looking to avoid Valentijn Overeem's high kick in their bout Saturday at "Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum" in Dallas. He did that, ducking the kick and eventually taking Overeem down, where he finished the fight as Overeem tapped to punches in the first round.

Griggs clinches after Overeem misses a high kick. A lateral drop puts him in half-guard in the center of the cage. Overeem hangs onto to the left arm and all Griggs can do is land little pity hammerfists. Overeem lets go of the hold and Griggs starts landing shots. Overeem turns his back and Griggs pounds away until Overeem taps to the onslaught.

The time was 2:08.

Griggs landed 66 percent of his shots (29-of-44) according to Compustrike while Overeem attempted only two strikes, landing one.

Griggs came into the fight coming off wins over Bobby Lashley and Gian Villante. The win moves him to 3-0 in Strikeforce. Overeem defeated Ray Sefo in February. He had won three in a row.
