UFC 136 Results Recap: Stipe Miocic vs. Joey Beltran

Stipe Miocic was able to outwork Joey Beltran at UFC 136 and earn a unanimous decision win. The fight was a back and forth affair where Miocic appeared in control but Beltran would occasionally land a punch or takedown and threaten. In the end it was the varied attack of Miocic that did the better job of convincing the judges that he deserved the nod.

Official scorecards were 29-28, 30-27, 29-28.

What was the high spot of this fight?

Toward the end of the third round Miocic was able to get on top of Beltran and work short elbows from top control and take the back as the round ended. It was the final bit of success that Miocic needed to take the fight on the judge's cards.

Where do these guys go from here?

Miocic just needed to make a successful UFC debut, he did that and now he can move forward. It's too bad that Dave Herman had the positive drug test that got him pulled from the card as those two would make for a decent Spike TV prelim bout.

Beltran is 3-3 in the UFC and they seem to like the way he fights so he will get at least one more fight in the Octagon.

Watch it now, later, or never?

Later. I didn't care for the fight, personally. But I just don't find Beltran interesting to watch. Miocic is an undefeated heavyweight who may have a long future in the UFC so it's worth watching the fight to at least see how his first time under the bright lights went.
