It took a little while to heat up, but Pat Barry and Joey Beltran threw a lot of leather and landed some very hard shots at UFC Fight for the Troops 2. The judges gave it to Barry by unanimous decision after three increasingly brutal rounds.

The two heavyweight sluggers spent most of the first round clinched against the fence as Beltran closed distance and tied up Pat Barry. Beltran worked for a single leg take down. Barry seemed frustrated and disappointed as much as threatened. Ref Mario Yamasaki restarted the action a little after the three minute mark. Barry then landed a sharp leg kick. Then another. Beltran then landed some uppercuts and forced the clinch again. Barry complained of a nut shot but Yamasaki didn't agree and let it continue. Beltran worked for a single leg but had to let it go after landing another low blow. After taking a break, Barry took center cage but landed nothing before time expired.

Barry came out aggressive in the second landing hard leg kicks and right hands to the face. Beltran countered but Barry scored in every exchange. Beltran backed him up with a series of uppercuts and body shots then clinched again where he landed foot stomps. Beltran worked a body lock and even got Barry airborne briefly but couldn't consummate the take down.  Yamasaki restarted it again. Barry threw a high kick. Then landed one in a following exchange. Beltran kept coming forward behind hooks and uppercuts but Barry was countering better. Barry missed with a winging uppercut. Hard uppercut from Beltran. Beltran coming forward with knees from the clinch. Brutal exchange to end the round, Beltran seeming to be getting a slight edge.

Barry landed a high kick to open the third. Beltran fired one of his own. Then Barry landed another high kick. Outside leg kick to Beltran's thigh. Beltran again with the uppercuts, backs Berry up and forces the clinch. More foot stomps. Crowd boos the foot stomp. More uppercuts and a right-left from Beltran. More dirty boxing from Beltran. Barry forces distance and lands a high kick but Beltran answers with effective dirty boxing. Barry began landing leg kicks and then Beltran took a finger to the eye and asked for a stop to the action. A doctor inspected Beltran but greenlighted more fighting. Barry with more leg kicks. Beltran caught one but then Barry got free and dropped him with another leg kick. Then he followed Beltran down and punched his thigh from top position. Barry then got full mount but stood up.  High kick from Barry. Body punch from Barry. Barry assaulted the leg at the end of the fight and had Beltran staggered and retreating at the end of the fight but didn't have time to finish.

Barry came into the fight with the better striking pedigree having K-1 experience and training with Duke Roufus. Beltran has carved out his UFC career as a straight up brawler with a win over a Gracie.
