Weekend Fight Roundup: Lombard, Loiseau, McGee Win; Strikeforce Interruptus

No massive events this weekend but there were a few fights. Here's a quick rundown:

  • In Australia, Hector Lombard held on to his Cage Fighting Championship middleweight title by beating veteran Brian Ebersole. Lombard apparently struck some late blows after the tap out. The Cuban native and former Olympian is now an Australian citizen and is signed with EliteXC. Hopefully we'll see him stateside soon. (MMA Weekly)
  • Former UFC title challenger David Loiseau beat TUF veteran Solomon Hutcherson to take the XMMA middleweight title. Hutcherson lasted into the fifth round. This win might be Loiseau's ticket back to the UFC after a long spell in the wilderness. (Sherdog)
  • Florida promotion Xtreme Fighting Championships built a crowd of over 11,200 to see Gan McGee TKO Johnathan Ivey in the headliner. We've been talking about the need for more successful regional promotions and by all appearances, XFC is exactly that. Well done. (MMA Weekly)
  • On the other hand, everybody's favorite regional sucess story, Strikeforce had a bad night last night. A broken cage door forced the cancellation of several fights including the headliner between Alvin Cacdac and local favorite Jose Palacios. (Sherdog)
