Cote vs. Almeida at UFC 86

The Fight Network Reports:

Patrick "The Predator" Cote will climb another rung on the UFC's middleweight ladder when he returns to the Octagon this summer. The Fight Network has learned that Cote will face Renzo Gracie protégé Ricardo Almeida at UFC 86 on Saturday, July 5 in Las Vegas.

Cote revealed on Monday that he will be competing on the main card of the event, which will feature a light heavyweight title bout between champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Forrest Griffin. Although Cote would neither confirm nor deny Almeida as his opponent, longtime training partner and friend David "The Crow" Loiseau said on Monday that the heavy-handed Quebec native would be taking on the decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt.

This is a good step toward lining up a contender for the middleweight division.  I don't think Cote would have a shot in hell against Silva but Almeida would remain an interesting threat should he be able to get the champion to the ground.  I like the matchmaking here and in a perfect world I'd like the winner to be matched up with Nate Marquardt for a title shot.

Of course while we wait for the potential contenders to sort themselves out the UFC is going to have to figure out someone to put in the cage with Anderson Silva.
