When he's not off making meaningless purchases of small companies, Gary Shaw has spent a lot of time attacking The UFC of late. Today he said that the UFC champions aren't legitimate champions until he fights his champions:
"But for Dana White to try to convince the fans that he owns all of the best fighters in the world? To say that this is just a starting point for fighters and then they're going to go to UFC? He is full of sh-. Let him fight our fighters."
Of course, this is a bogus challenge, and both sides know it'll never happen. The real question is why Gary Shaw is so hopped up about Dana and The UFC lately. I don't have any definitive source on this, but I wouldn't be surprised if it has to do with the coming legal action between Randy and The UFC. If Zuffa has proof that Shaw has tried to facilitate some kind of showtime airing of Couture/Fedor if it happens, then it's possible he could be one of the unnamed conspirators.
As things stand right now, Elite XC is a real fun promotion to watch, but it really is just a training ground for UFC. If Kimbo dominates and gets 4 knockouts, I wouldn't be shocked to see The UFC try to take him. For now, it's in the UFC's best interests to let guys develop over there before signing them prematurely.
