Randy Couture: It's 4 Fights Or 18 Months

Steve Cofield has an interview up with Randy Couture that's primarily about a charity poker tournament Couture is arranging that's designed to help wounded GI's back from Iraq. Nice touch, Randy. The rest of the interview, however, deals with Couture's desire to fight Fedor and his contract status. We've heard a lot of the same stuff over and over again, but what is new is that Randy believes - and insinuates he believes this based on what his lawyer tells him - that the deal he signed with the UFC is for four fights or 18 months. That would mean his deal ends sometime in July of this year.

Whether or not this is true, it's anyone's guess. Perhaps the poker theme is running deep here and this is all a litigation bluff on Randy's part to get the UFC to cut him. Who knows? It's all idle speculation. What I do know is that come July, it's going to be very interesting to watch this play itself out. Stay tuned.

Update [2008-1-10 16:3:46 by Luke Thomas]:: And just like that, Cofield took the interview down. I'll let you know if he puts it back up. I swear I'm not making any of this up.
