Rio Heroes and Pancrase Cards & Previews

Not much to say about these cards but they're all we have to look at until the weekend. Rio Heroes seems to have bought their way to credibility with a large internet advertising campaign on the major MMA news sites and gained popularity in part due to their free promotion on the Howard Stern Show.

Rio Heroes 12: Middleweight Tournament: November 27 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Broadcast: Live, free stream at RioHeroes.com @ 7PM ET.

Quarterfinals:

  • Flavio Alvaro (12-2-0) vs. Luke Macarena (3-2-0)
  • Egidio Amaro (1-1-0) vs. Welsi De Feitas Mello (0-0-0)
  • Fagner Mastodonte (0-1-0) vs. Wagner Araujo de Pinho (0-0-0)
  • Pedro Manoel Dos Santos (14-4-0) vs. Rafael Motta (3-2-0)

The tournament brackets almost guarantee a rematch between Flavio Alvaro and Pedro Santos in the finals. Santos delivered a vicious beating to Alvaro in their first meeting and has to be considered the favorite to win the tournament again.

Pancrase 2007 Rising Tour: November 28, 2007 in Tokyo, Japan (Korakuen Hall)

Broadcast: Tape delay on Sky A Sports, date pending.

Main Event: For the Middleweight King Of Pancrase

  • Izuru Takeuchi (22-9-6) vs. Yuichi Nakanishi (6-6-3) 6th Middleweight King of Pancrase

Main Card:

  • Daiki Hata "DJ.taiki" (7-4-2) vs. Marlon Sandro (9-0-0)
  • Asano Michihisa (4-4-2) vs. Murayama Tomoki (1-3-0)
  • Tatsuya Mizuno (2-2-0) vs. Masayuki Kono (3-2-0)
  • Takuya Wada (15-8-8) vs. Ryo Seiki (3-7-2)
  • Shinsuke Shoji (3-3-1) vs. Wataru Takahashi (5-9-2)

Rookie Tournament Bouts:

  • Yo Saito (Paraestra Sendai) vs. Tomoaki Honda (KILLER BEE)
  • Ryota Sasaki (B-CLUB) vs. Masamitsu Sato (Sakaguchi Dojo)
  • Akihiro Ono (Tigon team) vs. Net Taro Zyun (Wajyutsu Keisyukai A-3)
  • Taketoshi Suzuki (U-FILE CAMP Machida) vs. Makoto Akira Bongyo (Honma Dojo)
  • Keniti Ogura (Team KIBA) vs. Humi Hiroshi (U-FILE Camp Machida)

Besides the MW KOP bout, the card features very few interesting fights. The crowd pleasing, eccentric Daiki Hata faces the undefeated Nova Uniao member Marlon Sandro in what could be an exciting fight. This is a pretty weak card overall, partly due to last minute injuries to some of the originally scheduled participants. Hopefully the rookie tournament bouts will add some value to the card.
