A Bloody Elbow Thank You

Dear Readers & Friends,

I know I have been absent much of this month. I am still trying to pick myself back up and find a new way forward. It hasn't been easy, but the process is necessary and I know it's a matter of time before I'm back to 100%.

And lucky for me, I have this site, you readers, Team Bloody Elbow and the sport of mixed martial arts to keep things moving. This site is more than my personal labor my love. I believe there is a spot in the marketplace for intelligent analysis of MMA and I believe there are readers who long for analysis that goes beyond stage one. I don't think we are there yet, but we're getting closer each day.

This site keeps me busy and in the short run, that's enough. Beyond that, you readers keep me sharp by forcing me to stay on my intellectual toes and the other site writers keep me working to keep up with their unrelenting pace. I am honored to be a part of this project and I am honored to be in the company of like-minded MMA fanatics.

Of course, this place consumes my life sometimes. I can't tell you how often I've been yelled at by family and friends for working on the computer in the middle of times where - ostensibly - we are all supposed to be enjoying one another's company. I never mean to be anti-social or preoccupied, but I think you'll agree with me when I say, "They just don't understand." They just don't understand what a draw this sport is. They don't understand how strong the impulse is to get the latest news on signings, fight results, or big announcements. They have no idea how fun it is to watch hours and hours of fights on YouTube or DailyMotion.

To that end, they don't understand how good the writing is at Five Ounces of Pain. They don't know just how funny Fightlinker can be. They don't know about the incredible coverage of MMAMania. They don't know about the insight of Zach Arnold or Pramit Mohapatra. They haven't heard the incredibly-erudite Jordan Breen Show on Sherdog. But we do. We know and love these outlets and must all admit our daily routines simply would not be the same without them. They are the most enjoyable and endless time suck. I'm glad they take up so much of my time.

So, to all of us who donate our time to these sites, radio shows, and more, I say: thank you as a member of the MMA Labor of Love club and as a fan. Thank you for your love of this sport and your willingness to share your work with the rest of us. You keep us inspired and entertained.

On behalf of Team Bloody Elbow, Happy Thanksgiving.

Regards,

Luke Thomas
