The Frontlines of MMA

Corey Fischer's FightFest is apparently on the decline and for reasons that I can only cite as typical among local promotions. To wit:

The story behind FightFest's decline stems from dishonesty. I didn't say much about it at the time, but the check from my last fight bounced and it wasn't until 3 weeks later that I got paid... and that was after not getting my phone calls returned when Fisher was supposedly on vacation in Alaska hunting bear. This after being promised "NFL type money" in the future, which I didn't believe anyway... and having to endure him telling me "Matt, you know that I'd give you the shirt off of my back, right?" during a previous negotiation (it was one of the few times in my life that I was actually speechless)... in retrospect, I should have been like "Alright, give it to me!!"

I believe that Arman's check bounced as well... and I imagine other guys too.

After the May 12th FightFest show, my trainer Marcus pretty much turned off the tap for Corey. I'm proud of him for being so reserved and mature... trust me, it could have been much much worse. Josh Hendricks is still doing shows for Fisher... but I think that he is the only one.

Follow your local MMA scene and you're bound to hear more of this. This is beyond typical that promotions extend themselves beyond their means to produce shows. Then again, apparently it's typical of promotions at the higher level as well (paging PRIDE).
