Headlining UFC On FX 5, Heavyweight Antonio Silva knocked out Travis Browne with a big overhand right in the first round (3:27). This was a much needed win for Bigfoot Silva and his first in the Octagon. He's now 1-1 in the UFC (17-4 Overall). He gave "Hapa" his first career loss and brought his 5 fight UFC undefeated streak to a halt (13-1-1 overall).
Browne came out looking confident and maybe even a little cocky. That over confidence got him into trouble when he injured his knee throwing an early kick toward Bigfoot's head. After defending a takedown by hooking his arm over the cage it became obvious that Browne's movement was limited. It wasn't long before Silva capitalize with a big right hand that put down Hapa.
What was the high point of the fight?
The overhand right from Bigfoot was perfect. He put everything he had into it and it landed right on the proverbial button.
Where do they go from here?
Bigfoot Silva's future in the UFC was in question coming into this fight. He had lost his second consecutive fight at UFC 146 to contender Cain Velasquez. He needed this win and he got it in a big way. Although Silva came out and requested a rematch against Cain, I don't think it makes sense for either fighter. UFC On Fuel 5 winner Stefan Struve would be a good match for both guys.
Not many UFC Heavyweight have ever been able to claim a 5 fight streak without losing one. The only two blemishes on his record are this fight and an ugly fight with Cheick Kongo where only a point deduction saved him from a loss. Hapa should scare off against Mike Russow who'd coming off a loss to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 146.
Watch it now, later, or never?
Watch it now, it's a fun bout with an exciting KO finish.
