UFC on Fox 8 is in the books, and the card had its ups and downs. The main card saw three of the four fights finished before the final horn, but the most anticipated fight of the night was a snoozer. Here's a recap of the first three main card fights, which the main event bout getting it's own recap later on.
Andrade got off to a good start, getting up after a Carmouche takedown and getting her own, looking to sink a guillotine near the end of the first round. The second round was a different story though. Carmouche got a takedown and moved to mount, dropping punches and elbows for two minutes while Andrade struggled to defend. Finally Herb Dean had seen enough and awarded Carmouche the second-round TKO victory.
Lawler secured a takedown early but Voelker was able to get back to his feet after getting his nose busted up. Lawler was blasting away with kicks, punches, and flying knees and took the first stanza easily. Very early in the second, he scored with a massive head kick that sent Voelker to the mat. Just like that, the fight was stopped at the 24-second mark and Lawler was the winner via TKO.
A much-anticipated welterweight fight turned out to be a total letdown from an entertainment perspective. Ellenberger was never really able to get inside on Rory, who peppered him with jabs and front kicks for most of the fight. Ellenberger finally got a takedown with a minute to go in the third round, but it was too late by then. MacDonald took the decision with scores of 30-27, 29-28, and 30-27.
