UFC on Fox 5 results recap: Matt Brown vs. Mike Swick

USA TODAY Sports

In the opening main card bout of UFC on Fox 5, Matt Brown picked up arguably the biggest win of his career when he knocked out Mike Swick in the second round of their welterweight bout. The first round saw Brown catch Swick in all sorts of dangerous submission attempts, but the TUF 1 vet was able to escape from all of them. He seemed to get stunned early in the second round though, and Brown was able to catch him at the halfway mark. A left sent Swick reeling back, and the right that connected on the way down put him completely out cold.

Brown (16-11, 9-5 UFC) picked up his fourth straight win with the knockout, while Swick (15-5, 10-4 UFC) has lost three out of his last four in the organization.

What was the high point of the fight?

The knockout. Brown put both punches right on the button and Swick went down like a tree falling in the forest.

Where do they go from here?

Brown has always been a pseudo-gatekeeper in the UFC welterweight division, but ranking up four straight wins means that he deserve a fight against a ranked competitor. I'd like to see him face off with the heavy-handed Siyar Bahadurzada.

The future is much murkier for Swick, who was out for two years with medical issues and hasn't looked that excellent since his return. He probably won't retire, but he'll get a lower-level opponent next for sure.

Watch now, later, or never?

Now. The first round saw some odd positions due to Brown's sub attempts, and the KO was pretty awesome.
