Well, there goes my hope for having Ben Askren step in to headline UFC: Singapore.
Following Jake Ellenberger's injury, it was Hyun Gyu Lim who has been tapped to step up and headline the UFC Fight Night 34 card against Tarec Saffiedine. The Korean is 2-0 with the promotion so far, and was originally scheduled to face Kiichi Kunimoto on the same card so he will still have a full fight camp for the bout.
Lim has won both his UFC bouts with impressive knockouts, and while this will be a huge opportunity for him, it will also be a giant step up in competition from facing prelim-level fighters to headlining against a Strikeforce champion. Either way, it's a good match up stylistically, and it should provide a lot of entertaining striking exchanges.
According to a report from Brazil-based MMA site MMA informativo, stepping in to fill Lim's void on the undercard is Luiz Jorge Dutra Jr. Holding an 11-2 record, Dutra was part of TUF Brazil 2 and will officially be making his UFC debut as he steps up on about 5 weeks notice against a fellow newcomer in Kunimoto.
