In the fourth main card fight at UFC Fight Night 26, Urijah Faber (29-6, 5-2 UFC ) survived an early attack from Iuri Alcantara (28-5, 1 NC, 3-2, 1 NC UFC) to take a unanimous decision. The two bantamweights put on a pretty good show. Alcantara got to mount very early in the fight and very nearly secured an armbar, but Faber was able to escape. Faber got his own takedown, and the fight was all his from there. The judges had it 30-27, 30-27, and 30-26 for the former WEC champ.
The win cemented Faber's spot as the best bantamweight in the world without a title belt, while Alcantara suffered his first loss since dropping to 135. It was also Faber's third win in a six-month span.
What was the high point of the fight?
Probably the whole early sequence where Faber was in danger. It was quite a sight to see.
Where do they go from here?
It'll be interesting to see what they do with Faber. A bout with fellow UFC Fight Night winner Michael McDonald makes a lot of sense in some ways and sounds pretty dangerous in others. Faber has been talking up the idea of "superfights" at 145 lbs a bit, and I'd personally love to see him fight Frankie Edgar.
Alcantara was given his shot at a top-five opponent and couldn't cash in on the opportunity. He's still a very solid bantamweight though, and he'll probably find his way into the top 10 soon even with this loss on his record. I'd like to see him fight Mike Easton next.
Watch now, later, or never?
Now. Despite Faber spending the majority of it on top, it wasn't slow or plodding. it's worth a watch.
