UFC 166 saw John Dodson take on Darrell Montague in a flyweight contest that opened up the pay-per-view main card with a bang. After a slow opening few minutes, Dodson displayed that crazy power he possesses which is rare for a guy his size. They went back and forth early, but the real difference was when Dodson landed, it clearly hurt Montague. He dropped him midway through the round, and while he was able to survive the initial flurry, it happened again by the end of the round. Shortly after, Dodson landed another big blow. It produced a bit of a delayed reaction, but Montague dropped face first on the mat.
The final result: John Dodson def. Darrell Montague by KO (punch), 4:13, round 1
What was the high point?
The finish. Dodson landed a bomb, Montague wobbled a bit, and face planted. It was another huge knockout from one of the bigger hitters in the game pound for pound.
What was the low point?
The start of the contest, when it started a bit slow. There were a few boo-birds from a restless crowd early, but Dodson more than made up for it with dropping him twice.
Where do they go from here?
Dodson solidified his number 2 slot with another impressive finish. The division is still developing, and while he's unlikely to get another title shot, he will get another top contender next. Montague now has to go back to the drawing board, he lost his UFC debut but he still has a chance to make it with a win on his next bout as the division is still very thin.
Watch it now, later, or never?
It's a one punch knock out in the first round, watch it now.
