TUF 15 alum Myles Jury faced TUF 16 runner-up Colton Smith in the headlining preliminary card fight of UFC 165 in Toronto, Ontario.
There wasn't much to report in the beginning of round 1. It was more of a feeling out process from the combatants, but Jury landed a glancing head kick and a hard overhand right. Jury scored a takedown soon after, but nothing significant came out of it and Ricci got back to his feet in the closing seconds of the round.
Ricci found some success in the 2nd round with a couple of body kicks, while Jury was the more effective puncher. The activity was low and the pace was drawn out and caused the fans to boo during the 2nd. Unfortunately, the fight was even worse in the 3rd as Jury and Ricci drew out a slow stalemate against the cage as they battled for position on the ground.
What was the high point of the fight?
Jury landed a hard right hand in the 1st round. That is literally the highest point of the fight.
Where do they go from here?
Jury (13-0) was far from impressive and looked fairly passive. He did the bare minimum to win but definitely didn't merit a fight against one of the higher caliber lightweights in the division. The winner of Thiago Tavares/Quinn Mulhern seems to be one of the better options available for Myles.
Ricci (8-4) has been a total disappointment in the UFC. He's had 3 fights and 2 of them have been ugly ugly losses. Given Dana White's intense dislike for season 16 of TUF, I think we've seen the last of Ricci in the UFC.
Watch now, later, or never?
Never. This was a tedious, unwatchable mess from start to finish.
