UFC 165 fight card primer: Roland Delorme vs. Alex Caceres

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

The Bloody Elbow team previews all 13 fights taking place at UFC 165 tonight in Toronto, Ontario. Here, we look at Roland Delorme vs. Alex Caceres.

A dark horse for FOTN lies on the Facebook portion of the UFC 165 preliminary card, as Roland Delorme (9-1, 1 NC MMA; 2-1, 1 NC UFC) fights Alex Caceres (8-5, 1 NC MMA; 3-3, 1 NC UFC) in a bantamweight bout. It's not often you see two fighters with recent no contests, but Delorme and Caceres each have one within their past 3 bouts.

Caceres has recovered from a poor start to his UFC career and is unbeaten in his last 3, while Delorme (by virtue of his no contest) is undefeated in his post-TUF run. These combatants are crafty on the ground and are more than capable of winning by submission. The UFC 165 prelims on Facebook start at 6 PM ET/3 PM PT and continue on Fox Sports 1 at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.

How do these two stack up?

Delorme: 29 years old | 5'9" | 71" reach
Caceres: 25 years old | 5'10" | 73" reach

What have these two done lately?

Delorme: W - Edwin Figueroa (UD) | NC - Francisco Rivera (RIVERA FAILED DRUG TEST) | W - Nick Denis (SUB)
Caceres: NC - Kyung Ho Kang (CACERES FAILED DRUG TEST) | W - Motonobu Tezuka (SD) | W - Damacio Page (SUB)

How did these two get here?

Delorme made it to the quarterfinals of TUF 14, where he fell victim to T.J. Dillashaw's rear-naked choke in the 2nd round. He recovered nicely in the season finale by submitting Josh Ferguson, and then "Stunning" produced a stunning 1st round comeback win over Nick Denis at UFC on Fox 3 last May. The Canadian then took on the dangerous Francisco Rivera at UFC 149, where he was overwhelmed on the feet and knocked out in the opening stanza, but the result is now a NC because of Rivera's positive drug test. Delorme's sole fight of 2013 saw him put on a grappling clinic on Edwin Figueroa, but the victory wasn't easy as Figueroa had him hurt multiple times in the fight.

"Bruce Leeroy" was undersized on TUF 12 as a lightweight, and Michael Johnson exploited that in their quarterfinal matchup en route to a unanimous decision. Caceres dropped to featherweight and lost his ensuing two post-TUF bouts, then moved to bantamweight in November 2011. It's been a great move thus far, as he's won all but one of his 5 fights at 135 lbs, including a submission win over former WEC contender Damacio Page. His latest win over Kyung Ho Kang was overturned to a NC after he tested positive for marijuana metabolites.

Why should you care?

These two rarely fail to disappoint, and we could be in for some intense and incredibly wild grappling exchanges and wild scrambles on the mat.
