the third and final fight of the UFC 163 prelims on Facebook featured Featherweight Rani Yahya (19-7) scoring an unanimous decision victory over Josh Clopton (6-2-1). Yahya is now on a three-fight win streak and improved his UFC record to 4-1. Clopton fell to 0-2 in the Octagon, having lost both his fights by UD.
As expected, Yahya took a clear cut decision over Clopton. He controlled the first two rounds from top position. Despite holding a strong mount position in the first two rounds, he never got close to a finish. Clopton found some success in a slow third round, but it wasn't enough to take the fight away from Rani on the judges' cards.
What was the high point of the fight?
In the second round, Yahya trapped Clopton's arm behind his own back to land some solid shots on the ground.
Where do they go from here?
Now that he's got three consecutive wins under his belt and his only loss is to the #2 Featherweight, it's time for Yahya to get a bump in competition. I'd like to see him against Hacran Dias next.
A loss to a skilled vet like Yahya is nothing for Clopton to be ashamed of, but being on a two-fight skid is worrisome. He shouldn't get cut after this, but he will be fighting for his UFC roster spot in his next fight.
Watch it now, later, or never?
You can probably pass on this one, too. It wasn't a bad performance from either fighter, but nothing to write home about either.
