In the third and final fight on the Facebook-streamed portion of UFC 163, Rani Yahya (18-7, 3-1 UFC) and Josh Clopton (6-1-1, 0-1 UFC) will face off in a featherweight bout. Neither man is currently ranked in the official UFC rankings, but Yahya is currently at number 19 in the Bloody Elbow Meta-Rankings. The Facebook portion of UFC 163 kicks off at 6:30pm ET/3:30pm PT.
The matchup looks a bit odd considering that Yahya has a wealth of experience in the WEC and UFC and has been pretty successful, while Clopton was a TUF contestant that didn't go very far and lost his bout at the Finale. On top of that, he's been out for a very long time. Nonetheless, here we are.
How do these two stack up?
Yahya: 28 years old | 5'6" | 68" reach
Clopton: 32 years old | 5'7" | Unknown reach
What have these two done recently?
How did these two get here?
Rani Yahya is a former ADCC winner that has been competing in MMA for 11 years. After a run in K-1 Hero's, he moved over to the WEC where he fought for the bantamweight title and picked up three submission of the night bonuses. Once he came over to the UFC, he decided to return to featherweight and has had good results thus far. Other than a loss to Chad Mendes, he has won all three of his other bouts and could possibly be a contender with a few more wins.
Josh "The Gentleman" Clopton got into MMA through his friend and fellow UFC fighter Matt Wiman. He tried to get into the TUF 14 house but was defeated in the elimination round by Dustin Neace. He still got a fight at the TUF 14 Finale, but lost a decision to Steven Siler. Clopton hasn't fought in almost two years and is a crab fisherman most of the time, but here he is against Yahya.
Why should you care?
Yahya is probably going to submit him, and that should be entertaining right?
