In the 3rd of 4 UFC 162 preliminary card fights slated for the FX broadcast, Northern Ireland's Norman Parke (17-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) meets Japan's Kazuki Tokudome (12-3-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in the lightweight division. Believe it or not this is one of only two lightweight fights on the evening, with Edson Barboza/Rafaello Oliveira as the other 155 lbs battle.
This is Parke's first fight since winning TUF: The Smashes, while Tokudome tries to make the most of his US debut. You can catch the UFC 162 preliminary card special on FX starting at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT, and after Joe Rogan and Dana White shout at you for a few minutes you can turn on the PPV main card at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT.
How do these two stack up?
Parke: 26 years old | 5'10" | 70" reach
Tokudome: 26 years old | 5'11" | 73" reach
What have these two done recently?
How did these two get here?
Parke has finished all but 1 of his opponents on his way to joining TUF: The Smashes and representing Team UK. He won the show by winning all of his fights by decision, including the tournament final versus Colin Fletcher last December. He was due to face Jon Tuck at UFC on Fox 7 but when Tuck pulled out due to injury it forced Parke's removal from the show as well. Tonight he looks to win his first UFC fight post-TUF and extend his professional winning streak to 8.
Tokudome has spent much of his career in Tokyo, Japan, where he once challenged for the King of Pancrase lightweight title, only to lose by TKO to Isao Kobayashi. He won his next two fights and earned a UFC call against Cristiano Marcello in Saitama, Japan. Tokudome used superior striking to beat Marcello by unanimous decision. Tonight's matchup with Parke marks his first fight in the United States.
Why should you care?
The UFC wants you to care because Parke is a TUF champion, so let's just go with that. Otherwise this isn't a standout fight even as a prelim.
