UFC 161 fight card primer: Pat Barry vs. Shawn Jordan

A preview of the UFC 161 main card heavyweight bout between Pat Barry and Shawn Jordan.

Opening the pay-per-view broadcast of UFC 161 is a heavyweight rumble between Pat Barry (8-5, 5-5 UFC) and Shawn Jordan (14-4, 2-1 UFC). The two men have 14 knockouts between them in 22 career wins, so you have to figure there are going to be some fireworks in this bout.

Barry is coming off a huge finish of Shane del Rosario at the TUF 16 Finale last December, while Jordan knocked off Mike Russow at UFC on Fox 6 in January. Neither fighter is currently ranked in the UFC official fighter rankings at heavyweight. The UFC 161 PPV main card starts at 10pm ET/7pm PT.

How do these two stack up?

Barry: 33 years old | 5'11" | 74.5" reach
Jordan: 28 years old | 6'0" | 75" reach

What have these two done recently?

Barry: W - Shane del Rosario (KO) | L - Lavar Johnson (TKO) | W - Christian Morecraft (KO)
Jordan: W - Mike Russow (TKO) | L - Cheick Kongo (UD) | W -Oli Thompson (TKO)

How did these two get here?

Barry has been a mainstay of the UFC heavyweight division for over four years now. While it's unlikely that he'll ever challenge for a title, he brings guaranteed excitement and action to the octagon every time he fights. Only one of his 10 UFC fights has gone to a decision, and he has picked up four performance bonuses along the way. He won his last bout against Del Rosario, but is 2-3 in his last 5 overall.

Jordan started out as a semi-regular for Bellator, making his MMA debut there and competing under their banner three more times over the next two years. He then moved over to Strikeforce where he went 1-1 in 2 fights. When the heavyweights were brought over to the UFC, he came over as well and won his debut by stopping Oli Thompson. He rebounded from a loss to Cheick Kongo by defeating Mike Russow by TKO in his last bout.

Why should you care?

This fight is not going to a decision. Both men hit hard and absorb shots well. It's a FOTN candidate for sure.
