UFC 160 results recap: Glover Teixeira vs. James Te Huna

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

Take a look back at the UFC 160 light heavyweight bout between Glover Teixeira and James Te Huna. Teixeira picked up a first-round submission victory.

In the third main card fight at UFC 160, Glover Teixeira (21-2, 4-0 UFC) picked up his fourth straight UFC win by submitting James Te Huna (16-6, 5-2 UFC) in the first round with a guillotine choke. The two men came out chucking knuckles as expected, but it was Teixeira that landed more early. Te Huna stuffed an initial takedown attempt, but a second one saw the fight hit the floor. Te Huna was able to scramble up, but Teixeira used his vulnerability to slap on a guillotine choke and get the tap. The finish came at 2:38 of the opening stanza.

With the win Teixeira moves up further into title contention and could get a very big 205-pound fight next. The loss was a setback for Te Huna, but won't change his spot in the division to any great degree.

What was the high point of the fight?

The finish. Once Glover locked it up and squeezed, Te Huna had nowhere to go.

Where do they go from here?

Teixeira will udoubtedly get a top-10 opponent next, and it could be a top-five opponent. It's hard to call a 33-year-old man a prospect but in terms of his UFC career, that's what he is. He could be as little as one fight away from a title shot, but realistically it will be 2-3 with the way the division is lined up right now. I'd like to see him face the winner of the Dan Henderson vs. Rashad Evans bout at UFC 161.

Te Huna will likely go back to where he was before - a mid-card, exciting LHW with the ability to put on some great fights. The loser of the Rafael Cavalcante vs. Thiago Silva bout would be a good next fight for him.

Watch now, later, or never?

Now. It ended quick and the sub was really nice.
