UFC 160 results recap: Smith vs. Whittaker, Nurmagomedov vs. Trujillo

Esther Lin/MMA Fighting

A brief recap of Colton Smith vs. Robert Whittaker and Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Abel Trujillo from UFC 160.

Robert Whitaker defeated Colton Smith via TKO (punches) at 0:41 of round three

What early on looked to be a competitive athletic advantage for Smith would eventually give way to a decisive technical victory for Whitaker. Having no answer for Whitaker's jab, Smith soon began opening himself up to counter strikes as he bagan rushing forward. It was a final, reckless third-round charge that would eventually see Smith dropped to the mat before being rescued by the referee.

Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Abel Trujillo via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

Aside from maybe the main event, to me this was the most one-sided fight of the night. It never even seemed to enter into a competitive realm. We see fighters embarrass their inferiors almost weekly in the UFC, but what Nurmagomedov did to Trujillo with his wrestling was criminal. It's was tough enough to watch without Joe Rogan making matters worse by branding Trujillo a quitter after looking to ref for standups.
