How did these two get here?
The winner of "The Ultimate Fighter 3" in the light-heavyweight division, Michael Bisping had been a perennial bridesmaid in the UFC middleweight division since making his move there starting at UFC 83. Each time he's climbed the mountain with three- and four-fight winning streaks, he's been knocked back down, once famously by Dan Henderson, and more recently by both Chael Sonnen and Vitor Belfort. He can't quite get over the hump. But Bisping's style has frustrated many en route to a very successful UFC career.
Alan Belcher was on a roll after returning from serious injuries that kept him away from the Octagon for nearly a year-and-a-half, and before and after the injury had accumulated a four-fight winning streak, with all four wins coming via stoppage. That was put to an end by Yushin Okami at UFC 155, who frustrated Belcher at every turn.
Why should you care?
The winner of this fight will reposition himself nicely in a middleweight division where a lot of top contenders have suffered losses recently. There's a lot of animosity between these two fighters and it could manifest itself in the cage when the door closes.
