A recap of the UFC 158 main card lightweight fight between Mike Ricci and Colin Fletcher. Ricci won the bout via unanimous decision.
In the opening main card fight of UFC 158, respective TUF finalists Mike Ricci and Colin Fletcher engaged in a tepid striking battle that didn't exactly have a lot of flash. The first round was mostly kicks from both men, with Fletcher throwing in some spins that didn't really do anything. Ricci got a takedown in the second and opened up a cut, but the last half of the round looked like a sparring session.
Things finally picked up a bit late in the third when Ricci got back mount and looked for a choke, but he couldn't find it before the final horn. All three judges had it 30-27 for the Canadian. Ricci (8-3) picked up his first official win in the UFC, while Fletcher (8-3) dropped to 0-2 under the Zuffa banner.
What was the high point of the fight?
Fletcher kicked Ricci in the junk in the first round. That was seriously the highlight of the fight.
Where do they go from here?
Ricci will continue on as a representative of The Ultimate Fighter, but he hasn't displayed much so far that makes him stand out as a prospect. And he certainly won't be competing on a main card anytime soon. I think a good matchup for him would be TUF Brazil contestant Renee Forte.
Fletcher might be on his way out of the organization with the loss, but he might be kept around to use on a UK card in the future. If Cristiano Marcello is still around, match those two up.
Watch now, later, or never?
Never. I can't emphasize this enough. Go do your taxes and clean up the dog poop in your backyard if you have some time to kill. Don't watch this.
