Bloody Elbow takes a look at UFC 155 results as we recap Joe Lauzon vs. Jim Miller.
Miller dictated the tone of the fight early on, using his superior stand-up in round 1. Midway through that round, Miller unleashed a brutal series of elbows from the clinch. The result was a huge gash above Lauzon's eye, making the rest of the fight an absolute bloodbath. Amazingly, Lauzon held on for the full 15 minutes, and still managed to make it a fight in rounds 2 and 3. It was a great performance from Miller and a real show of gutsy determination from Lauzon.
What was the high spot of this fight?
The ending. Miller was winning big and Lauzon knew it, so Lauzon went for broke, diving for a leglock, then going for a last minute Hail Mary choke. It didn't work, but it was a thrilling moment that showed a dedication to win even after a brutal 15 minutes.
Where do these guys go from here?
Miller has moved into the Lightweight gatekeeper role, which is a fine place for him. Next person ready to try that gate is Jamie Varner, and that should be a good one.
Lauzon turned in another great crowd pleasing performance. It doesn't seem like he's ever going to quite make it up to the championship level, but he will always have a sport in the UFC. I'd love to see him take on Nate Diaz in what would be a pretty great fight.
Watch it now, later, or never?
Now. Incredible fight here with both men giving it their all. Watch it.
