Bloody Elbow presents their UFC 155 fight card primer, previewing all the action at UFC 155: dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2. Here, we look at Leonard Garcia vs Max Holloway.
In a Featherweight fight at UFC 155: Dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2, Leonard Garcia (15-9-1, 2-5 UFC) faces Max Holloway (6-1, 2-1 UFC). This is the first fight on the free FX card. The UFC 155 PPV airs tonight, December 29, with the main card beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT.
This could be the end of Garcia's storied UFC career which has seen him entertain fans with some of the wildest brawls in MMA history.
How do these two stack up?
Garcia: 33 years old | 5'9" tall | 69.5" reach
Holloway: 21 years old | 5'11" tall | 70" reach
What have these two done recently?
Garcia: L Matt Grice (UD) | L Nam Phan (UD) | L Chan Sung Jung (Sub)
Holloway: W Justin Lawrence (TKO) | W Pat Shilling (UD) | L Dustin Poirier (Sub)
How did these two get here?
Garcia first made a name for himself by putting on a great showing in a loss to Roger Huerta in his 2007 UFC debut at Lightweight. After going 1-2 in the UFC he moved down to Featherweight when that meant moving to the WEC. He went 4-3-1 in the WEC and put on a legendary brawl with "the Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung. He moved to the UFC when the WEC was shut down and aside from a very unpopular decision win over Nam Phan in their first bout has been winless. This could be the end of the road for Garcia as a big-time fighter.
Holloway first came to attention as a 4-0 19 year old when he was featured in the Bloody Elbow Scouting Report last year. He made his UFC debut as a late substitute for Ricardo Lamas against Dustin Poirier which he lost but he's since put together a 2 fight win streak.
Why should you care?
It's a classic case of a legendary fighter on his way down against an exciting young prospect on the way up. Can Garcia dig deep and score one more KO win with a big right hand? Can Holloway show he can hand with one of the fiercest brawlers in the history of the sport?
