In the second bout out the UFC 154 main card, Rafael dos Anjos showed off some excellent takedown defense to dominate Mark Bocek in their lightweight bout. Bocek continually looked to get the fight to the floor against the cage, but Dos Anjos fought him off well and busted him up when he got the chance. He was even getting takedowns himself as Bocek's gas tank started to empty. All three judges had it 30-27 for the Brazillian fighter.
Dos Anjos (18-6) moved to 7-4 in the UFC with the win and has now won three bouts in a row. Bocek (11-5) dropped to 7-5 in the UFC with the loss, and had a two-fight win streak snapped.
What was the high point of the fight?
There wasn't a lot of fast-paced action. Dos Anjos started throwing some flashy offense in the last 20 seconds when he knew he had the fight in the bag, but nothing really landed.
Where do they go from here?
Dos Anjos will undoubtedly move further up in the division. He's now won seven of his last night, with his only losses coming via split decision (to Gleison Tibau) and a broken jaw (against Clay Guida, in a bout he was winning). He should face the winner of the UFC on Fox 6 bout between T.J. Grant and Matt Wiman.
Bocek is in a weird spot with this loss. He has only lost to really good fighters, but he doesn't have an exciting style and he can't put together a solid win streak. A bout with Evan Dunham might make some sense.
Watch now, later, or never?
Later. Dos Anjos was great, but it was a tad slow.
