UFC 154 results recap: John Makdessi vs. Sam Stout

In the second FX prelim fight, John Makdessi battered Sam Stout on the feet to end his losing streak.

Lightweight John Makdessi outstruck Sam Stout en route to a unanimous decision on the FX prelims of UFC 154. Makdessi rebounded off a 2 fight skid with the with and improved his record to 3-2 as a UFC fighter (10-2 overall). Stout dropped to 1-2 in his last three fights with a UFC record of 7-7 (18-8-1 overall).

Throughout the 15 minutes bout, Makdessi used his superior striking technique to batter and bloody his more limited opponent. Stout started out trying to land a big overhand right, but Makdessi frustrated his attack with a stiff jab and lead hook. Makdessi also displayed solid takedown defence, fending off each of Stouts attempts to keep the fight standing.

What was the high point of the fight?

They had a good exchange to open up the third round where Makdessi landed a good hook kick and Stout came right back at him with a right hook.

Where do they go from here?

Sam Stout's recent record doesn't look great, but he's been a fixture in the Lightweight division for years now. In that time he's solidified himself as a talented but limited mid-tier gatekeeper. Obviously, no loss is a good loss, but Stout shouldn't have trouble rebounding from this one.

This fight was much bigger for Makdessi than for Stout. The win broke a 2-fight losing streak and he looked good winning it. A win over a recognizable opponent in Stout looks good on anyone's record as well. One win won't move him far up the ladder, but it does keep him on the roster.

Watch it now, later, or never?

You can save this one for later. It's not a bad fight, but there's better action to be seen further up the card.
