Take a look back at the action from UFC 154 where Darren Elkins and Steven Siler opened up the show.
Opening up the Facebook prelims for UFC 154, Darren Elkins picked up a unanimous decision over Steven Siler. Elkins extended his win streak to four fights with a UFC record of 5-1 (15-2 overall). Siler was on a 3-fight win streak of his own heading into the event and undefeated in the UFC. This loss drops his UFC record to 3-1 (21-10).
The first round set the tone for the entire 15 minutes affair. Elkins secured a takedown fairly early in the round and punished Siler from top position. Siler never made it easy on him though, always finding a way to regain guard and threaten with submissions of his own. Rounds 2 and 3 were much of the same. Although Siler did land a couple good upkicks in the second, overall he was far too comfortable on his back and it cost him the decision.
What was the high point of this fight?
The up kicks from Siler in the second round. They were probably his most damaging shots of the fight and had Elkins stunned.
Where do they go from here?
With a 4 fight win streak, it's time for Elkins to take a step up in competition. The winner of Diego Nunes vs. Nik Lentz at UFC On FX 7 would be a good choice for his next fight.
Despite coming out on the wrong end of the decision here, Steven Siler definitely proved he can hang with the top 25 of the division. He will need to increase his sense of urgency in the future in regards to getting back on his feet. If he continues to be happy working from guard, he's gonna have problems with a lot of guys at the top.
Watch it now, later, or never?
I'd watch it later. It is a fun fight with impressive grappling displays from both fighters, but there's better action to be seen on UFC 154.
