In another UFC 154: St. Pierre vs. Condit Middleweight clash, Francis Carmont (19-7 MMA; 3-0 UFC) takes on Tom Lawlor (8-4(1) MMA; 4-3 UFC). This is the third fight on the main PPV card. The UFC 154 PPV airs this Saturday night, November 17, with the main card beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT.
As is the case with many of the UFC 154 fights, this features a Canadian based fighter. In this case, it's Carmont representing Canada. The French fighter now trains out of Montreal's Tristar Gym alongside GSP. It's also a slightly odd choice for such a high placement on the card. Neither Carmont nor Lawlor are all that known, and neither is really much of a top 10 contender at this point. This is a surprising fight for the #3 slot on the card.
How do these two stack up?
Carmont: 31 years old | 6'3" | 78" reach
Lawlor: 29 years old | 6'0"
What have these two done recently?
How did these two get here?
Francis "Limitless" Carmont had a rough start to his career, going 11-7 primarily in the European regional scene. But since late 2008, he's really turned it around. He's now on an 8 fight win streak that includes his 3 UFC wins. He's looked solid in his UFC outings, and it's clear he's found a great home at Tristar. It will be interesting to see if he can build momentum with an impressive win here.
"Filthy" Tom Lawlor is a fighter with a cult following thanks mainly to his outsized pro-wrestling style persona. The TUF season 8 veteran is more known for his weigh-in attire and ring entrances than anything else - expect something big now that he's back on PPV. Lawlor is just 2-4 in his last 6, though to be fair, he has been fighting consistently tough competition. Lawlor has some surprising wins, and is never a fighter you should count out.
Why should you care?
To see if Carmont is a real prospect and if he can show it tonight. And I guess to see Lawlor's entrance if you're into that sort of thing.
