UFC 153 FX prelims finished with a bang with Rony Jason vs. Sam Sicilia. Rony capped it off perfectly in the closing minute of the second round with a big TKO.
Headlining the FX prelims for UFC 153, Rony Mariano Bezerra got a second round TKO over Sam Sicilia. Rony Jason picked up his second win in as many UFC fights here and extends his career record to 12-3. Sicilia falls to even after two UFC bouts with a career record of 11-2.
Neither fighter was hesitant to engage right from the opening bell. Rony hit Sicilia first a powerful punch and tried for the early finish. Sam was able to rally and get in some shots of his own. Fernando Yamasaki deserves a mention here for delivering horrible stand-ups in all three of the bouts he reffed last night. Both fighters came out trading leather in the second round, but it was Rony Jason who managed to get the finish.
What was the high point of this fight?
The finishing sequence was fantastic. Jason caught a low kick and countered with a big right hand. A little obligatory ground and pound and "it's all over!"
Where do they go from here?
With back to back TKO wins it's time for Rony to take a step up in competition. The UFC has been adamant about making their presence known in Brazil and an exciting TUF winner will be a huge hit with fans. As previously suggested, a fight with journeyman Gleison Tibau makes a lot of sense here
Sam Sicilia may be down, but he's not out after last night's fight. The TUF 15 veteran has just the style the UFC loves to see and they'll look to give him another push. MMA judging victim Reza Madadi would be a great fight to make.
Watch it now, later, or never?
Watch it now. The fight was a lot of fun and worth a look.
