The Bantamweight division hasn't been seeing too much significant action in a few months. This will change when #1 Dominick Cruz defends his WEC belt against #3 Joseph Benavidez on August 18.
Another division with no major movement in June. The biggest deal was probably #7 Marlon Sandro making short work of #10 Masanori Kanehara at Sengoku Raiden Championships.
#1 Dominick Cruz sits atop the bantamweight rankings as he awaits a rematch with #3 Joseph Benavidez at WEC 50.
The Alliance Gym's bantamweight king, broken hand and all, still sits atop the division. At WEC 47, the Alliance Gym bantamweight #1 Dominick Cruz easily out kickboxed #2 Brian Bowles at WEC 47 last month.
Last month I promised a lot of shakeup in April and nothing could be truer. #1 Jose Aldo defended his title against #3 Urijah Faber in a dominant performance at WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber. While there was some fan disappointment at Aldo's inability to finish The California Kid, there is no doubt who the top dog is in the division.
Now #1 Jose Aldo defended his title for the first time against #3 Urijah Faber at WEC 48. Aldo looked positively sensational in the bout, easily routing the California Kid while leaving the Team Alpha Male member unable to walk for days with damage left from brutal leg kicks. No word has yet been made official by the WEC.
The last we saw of #1 Dominick Cruz at WEC 47, he demonstrated superior technical abilities standing to defeat the hard-hitting #2 Brian Bowles. Both fighters suffered injuries in that bout and as of today, there's no word on when they'll be fighting again. Stay tuned.
