Rin Nakai (9-0) captured the inaugural Valkyrie open-weight title with a doctor stoppage win over Mizuho Sato in Tokyo on Sunday. The former gymnast battered Sato with knees from the clinch, causing a possible orbital fracture which forced the ringside physician to halt the action at the end of the first round. Nakai stated before the fight that, were she to win the title, she'd like to compete in the U.S. at 125 or 135 pounds. Mika Nagano will meet South Korea's Seo Hee Ham in the semifinals of Jewels' lightweight title tournament on Dec. 17 in Tokyo. Retiring DEEP women's 106-pound champion Miku Matsumoto (center) will face the unbeaten Megumi Fujii (right) in an exhibition match at DEEP's "47th Impact" on April 17th. No details were immediately available regarding the rules of the bout.
