UFC welterweight Ricardo Almeida walked away unscathed from an ugly car crash in New Jersey on Thursday. "Cachorrão" was driving alone on his way to the airport when he rear-ended a FedEx delivery truck on the New Jersey Turnpike, totaling his Land Cruiser (shown above in a picture from Almeida's Twitter account). "Thank you for the well wishes," Almeida wrote on Twitter yesterday shortly after the accident. "Amazingly not a single scratch. Felt like something just push me out of harm's way."
Unbeaten Olympic judo convert Rick Hawn (8-0) punched out Shonie Carter (49-24-7, 1 NC) at 4:08 of round two in their main event bout at Triumph Fighter 3 in New Hampshire on Saturday. According to Mark Daniels of the Boston Herald, the Massachusetts-based welterweight has "caught the attention of UFC matchmaker Joe Silva" and could be headed to the big show soon.
