How the Zuffa lawsuit against Bellator and Ken Pavia brings back memories of TNA's early woes

With the UFC and WEC's parent company Zuffa LLC filing a lawsuit against The Bellator Fighting Championship and agent Ken Pavia that alleges corporate espionage, I'm reminded of a similar story from 8 years ago (which is also covered in great detail in Jerry Jarrett's book about the early history of TNADerek Burgan's review of the book is also worth reading).  When TNA first launched with its $9.95 weekly PPV concept (in lieu of trying to secure a national TV deal in some form), they hired PPV consultant Jay Hassman (referred to as "Jay Haussmann" in Jarrett's book), who was a Vice President in WCW, running their PPV department.  At the same time, Hassman was working for Team Services, which worked with WWE in distributing their Fanatix PPV series, but TNA didn't know that.

Five Knuckles Reports That Lashley vs Waterman May Be Moving To Strikeforce: TNA wrestling superstar and current blue chip MMA heavyweight prospect Bobby Lashley is in late-stage negotiations with Strikeforce on a multi-fight contract, according to sources close to the promotion. FiveKnuckles.com has also learned that the undefeated former collegiate wrestling champion will likely take on Ron Waterman in his Strikeforce debut, though negotiations are still ongoing at this juncture. Waterman and Lashley had been scheduled to lock horns at Prize Fight Promotions' third event in Denver, CO on Oct. 3, but the fight has since been postponed, likely due to current negotiations with Strikeforce, who is said to be close to securing the fight for an upcoming event. Strikeforce would like to book the fight for its upcoming CBS debut on Nov. 7 in order to capitalize on Lashley's vast mainstream appeal, but negotiations have crawled away and may not be completed in time to accommodate the fast approaching event - in which case the fight would likely be pushed back to late December or January.

Frank Trigg made his "pro wrestling" debut against A.J. Styles on Sunday night's TNA pay-per-view...

Frank Trigg made his "pro wrestling" debut against A.J. Styles on Sunday night's TNA pay-per-view in a special "Mixed Martial Arts/Amateur Wrestling" match which consisted of three 5-minute rounds. Trigg actually plays a fine heel and hams it up in a decent promo after his walk, but it's pretty much downhill from there until the last bit. This has nothing on Shamrock vs. Owen Hart in the Dungeon, or even the Lion's Den Match.
