Muay Thai great John Wayne Parr retired from the sport this past weekend. In his retirement fight, the Australian fighter defeated Jordan Tai in the main event of Parr's new Boonchu Cup promotion - an event that featured full Muay Thai rules fights taking place inside a cage and with MMA style 4 oz. gloves. From all accounts, the event was a great success. Parr is a true gentleman of the sport and has always been a great ambassador for Muay Thai, particularly in Australia. It's a shame to see him hang up the gloves, though let's hope he stays on as a promoter and keeps his Caged Muay Thai promotion going. "I intend to do some training and Muay Thai fights to get back into the ring, and soon be able to meet great fighters like Cyborg [Santos], India [Gomes] and Carina Damm who, despite being in [weight classes] above mine, I admire a lot and mirror professionally." -- Fabiana Belai, the Muay Thai fighter who some are calling "the Brazilian Gina Carano" "She's the most promising thing I've seen in my gym in terms of talent, speed and technique. I'm sure that she's soon going to be bad for the other competitors in the category up to 58kg (128 pounds)." -- trainer Paulo Nikolai of Fighters Camp via Portal do Vale Tudo
