Joe Lauzon discussed his upcoming UFC 123 opponent, George Sotiropoulos, on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, specifically questioning (as others have) the Australian's controversial fight attire: "I don't see how you can wear your regular fight shorts, compression shorts under that that go to your knee, then wear knee pads on both sides that go halfway down your leg, then ankle supports that go halfway up your leg and down to your toes," Lauzon said. "I don't know what the deal is with the commission, if he'll be allowed to wear those or not, but we're prepared for him either way." "We'll think about it. I don't know if it will make a huge difference, but at the same time, why give him that advantage? Maybe we'll make a formal request to not let him wear them." "I thought it was a big step up in competition, to go from a Gabe Ruediger, who didn't have the best fight history, to a George Sotiropoulos, who's undefeated in the UFC. ... I was pretty surprised. I was taken back by it a little bit. I figured he'd be fighting for the title real, real soon, and I don't see myself in that same category. To go and be put up against a guy like that, either they really don't like me or they're expecting something good out of me." UFC 123: Rampage vs. Machida coverage

Gabe Ruediger has one more chance in the UFC: "I took this fight with 2 weeks to prepare and I truly felt that I would be ready. After some of the shots (Joe Lauzon) landed, I honestly have no idea what happened or what was going on. I know I was armbarred, but I dont know which arm or why I tapped, because my arm feels fine." "I spoke with Joe Silva from the UFC and he told me I would have at least one more chance and next time I would have the proper time to prepare. For that I am happy, but I still cant believe how bad that fight was for me." -- photo via ufc.com UFC 118: Edgar vs Penn 2 coverage

Joe Lauzon discusses his new opponent for UFC 118 on his blog: "I spent 3 months training for a 6’1″ kickboxer with slick BJJ. I knew the replacement would never be even close to that. We had done a LOT of very specific training for Terry, which was all for nothing. I hope Terry has a speedy recovery and maybe we can do it down the line. The UFC was looking for a replacement and they found one in Gabe Ruediger. Gabe was on my team on The Ultimate Fighter and is most known for getting a colonic, arguing with people in the house (mainly Matt Wiman), not making weight because he was eating cake and ice cream… and then eventually being kicked out of the house by Dana White. Not exactly the light anyone wants to be cast it, but Gabe dug his own grave. Before Gabe was casted out of the house, I trained with him a good amount and it went both ways. He caught me, I caught him. I think I got the best of him on the ground while he got the best of me on the feet. We have gone back and forth about things on The Underground on a few occasions, and this fight has a lot of history behind it. I know I have grown tremendously as a fighter since the show… but I am sure everyone on our season has and I expect nothing less from Gabe. I think I have a number of major advantages going into this fight… but none as great as being the better fighter. I want to smash Gabe just as much as he wants to smash me. And luckily you get to see it August 28th for free on Spike TV. Let the cake jokes commence." UFC 118: Edgar vs. Penn 2 coverage Photo: NBC Sports

Dan Lauzon tells the Boston Herald that his brother Joe and other coaches have given up on him, just two weeks before his UFC 114 fight with Efrain Escudero: "This is going to be the first fight I don’t have them in my corner," Dan Lauzon said last week. "They’re not going to be there to support me. It (stinks). I don’t really know what I did to deserve this. I wouldn’t do that to anybody. I wouldn’t do that to my brother, I wouldn’t do that to anyone in my gym. It’s not right." "He trained better than he did before (the ultimatum), but he still didn’t fulfill everything we wanted him to do," Joe Lauzon said. "We said you need to train 10 or 11 times a week, and he didn’t do that. I don’t think he’s done that one time." Dan Lauzon disputed that account, saying that no specific guidelines were ever presented to him. "In my eyes, I was doing everything right," he said. "I was making it to the gym; I was training hard two times a day. I was doing everything right. I was completely blown away." "I was completely hurt by it, especially my brother Joe. I don’t think anybody would ever do that to their brother. I can’t think of anyone else that would ever do that to their brother and just tell them, ’Hey, you’re on your own.’" "I think I’m going to be pretty much looking for a new gym and new coaches to train with," he said. "People I can actually count on and rely on and not somebody that’s going to halfway through a camp say, ’Hey sorry, you’re going out there alone, good luck.’ " Lauzon scrambled to find new cornermen and will have WEC fighter Josh Grispi, "Ultimate Fighter" alum John Clarke and training partner Brandon Chase with him in Las Vegas. Joe Lauzon says he and brother Dan are no longer willing to fight each other, and won't even fight on the same card again: "It just doesn't work out that well, so we definitely won't do it again." "I was trying to look at all the positive aspects of it – about the training camp and the fact that everyone from home could see us both at the same time," Joe said. "Normally you have to fly to see me fight, and then you have to fly to see him fight. I was trying to look at all the upside, but I definitely knew there was a big downside – the emotion dump. Plus we couldn't corner each other." "I was screaming in the back room at the TV, almost like I'm coaching," Joe said. "Obviously [Dan] can't hear me, so I'm being retarded, but I'm screaming. I saw the reverse triangle coming way before Danny did, way before my coaches did. I could tell the way Cole fell to his side that it was coming, but I couldn't do anything about it." "I think we squashed the whole fighting thing," Joe said. "We both had such a tough time fighting at the same time. "If it came way down the line and they were going to pay us some obscene amount of money, then I think we would think about it. We were like, 'I'd definitely fight him,' but I think after seeing how tough it was just to see the other person fight on the same night, I think we're kind of squashing that." HT: MMA Junkie
