Jordan Breen reports on the continuing hilarity at Impact FC's second press conference in Sydney, Australia: Middleweight Denis Kang, though obviously disinterested, is thoughtful in his responses and speaks at length about the ankle injury that hampered him before his bout with Alan Belcher, and the visa issues that kept him from training at American Top Team recently. However, his opponent, the notoriously eccentric Paulo Filho -- clad in a beige Venum shirt instead of his usual sleeveless flannel -- gives terse, bizarre answers to questions. Twice Filho responds to questions after Kang, simply mumbling, "I agree." When asked by fighter-stroke-commentator Elvis Sinosic what he did to train specifically for Kang, Filho offers, "I trained for him, specifically." "When are we eating?" Kang then asks promoter Tom Huggins. "I can't eat, so I don't really care," answers Glover Teixeira. Exchanges like this are the backbone of Impact FC press conferences. The press conference drags. Teixeira explains his visa situation, saying that he may have to wait up to 27 months for his green card. Former TUF cast member Jeremy May, sporting a quasi-Clay Guida mop, discusses the orphanage he and his father have opened, despite the fact May now looks like a cast member from "Jackass." K-1 convert Peter Graham says that it's normally his M.O. to talk trash, but because opponent Jim York's father is hospitalized after having a stroke, he's opted to refrain. Pens click, cell phones ring, and conversations in Portuguese create a symphony. Suddenly, something pierces my chest. Denis Kang has hurled a paper airplane made from an Impact FC flier at me. "It's a fighter plane," Kang says. I can't tell if he's intentionally making a pun or not.

Bob Sapp's fight against Soa Palelei at Impact FC's PPV event this week has been cancelled after the promotion told him that the cost of a plane ticket from Europe (where Sapp's filming a movie) to Australia was too expensive. Sapp explains to MMA Junkie: "...Sapp wasn't shocked by the last-minute cancellation and speculated the promotion's ambitious schedule might be at fault. In the past, he required promoters to put his fight purses in an escrow account before he signed on the dotted line. This time, he didn't. "That's why they used the loophole, and that's why they jumped," Sapp said. The 6-foot-5, 350-pound fighter said he had assembled a training camp in Bulgaria to prepare for the bout and spent at least $10,000 on coaches, training partners, and living expenses. The heavyweight said his team plans to draft a formal letter to the promotion asking for reimbursement of his expenses. If that fails, he may take legal action. "I'm not going to allow anybody to screw me over," Sapp said.

Contrary to a report posted on BJPenn.com, sources from Bellator tell MMAFighting.com that British welterweight Paul "Semtex" Daley (23-9-2) has not signed with the promotion. Daley is set to face Brazilian veteran Daniel Acacio (21-9) at next weekend's Impact FC card in Sydney, Australia. UPDATE: Daley himself calls the claims "bull****" and says "I doubt I will sign with Bellator anytime soon" on The Underground. Photo by Dave Mandel for Sherdog.

Jordan Breen reports on the unintentionally hilarious pre-fight press conference in Brisbane, for Impact FC's first event this Saturday, starring Josh Barnett, Karo Parisyan, and Sokoudjou: "The puddle of water continued to hungrily devour the tile floor. The Australian media were keen to ask about sporting crossover: Former UFC champion Carlos Newton was asked about the recent State of Origin, the nation's most beloved rugby league competition, while Ferreira was asked why Brazil's national side lost at the World Cup. "DUNGA!" Ferreira exploded before his manager and translator Tiago Okamura even finished translating the question. "Dunga took the team down!" he added, giving the former Brazilian coach a literal thumbs down. As the soccer conversation went on, an anxious Parisyan drummed loudly on his thighs before standing up and saying quietly, "I can't sit down, man." When Ferreira's opponent, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, spoke, it was again Barnett who took the media reins. "Your background is in judo, but you prefer to use your muay Thai in fights," Barnett earnestly inquired. "Why do you not use the skills you've worked on your whole life?" "Well, with fighters like Arona or Nogueira, if I throw them, they'll submit me. That's why I focus on striking, what I love to do," Sokoudjou explained. "With judo, you just throw, there's not so much ground game." "Not exactly, but whatever," the roaming Parisyan interjected from the back of the room. The room fell silent. With no response, Parisyan rolled his eyes to discredit the Cameroonian, whom he actually beat in judo competition nearly a decade ago. Parisyan continued his stroll around the room before settling on the couch next to me. "What are you writing?" he asked. "I'm writing about you walking around, rolling your eyes," I smiled."
