Dan Miller on Adversity, UFC on FX 1, East Coast MMA, and Future

UFC middleweight Dan Miller has been through a lot these last few months. In this interview, Miller talks to The Sports Courier's Fred Richani about interacting with fans, his son Daniel's health...

Why him? Why him? We got to experience Danny as a baby, and it wasn’t fair what he went through. I can take the pain; it’s OK. I am in the pain business. I didn’t want to see Danny go through that. I was told a few times that Danny didn’t have a chance to live. I wasn’t about to watch one of my children die again. There were a lot of sleepless nights.

UFC Middleweight Dan Miller discusses his son's illness in Joseph Santoliquito's excellent feature which also includes some telling quotes about Dan from his friends and family. I'm somebody who is fortunate enough to know Dan Miller the person, not the professional cage fighter, and this piece is the best story I've ever seen in terms of capturing who he is, what he's carried without complaint because his family needed him to, and why he should be an inspiration to any new husband and father.

Chris Weidman Joins the Super Seminar Team - Daniel James Miller Foundation Update

The already UFC-rich roster of pros offering instruction at Saturday’s 4-hour-long super seminar (more information here) has received another boost as UFC Middleweight Chris Weidman has kindly volunteered his time to come out and assist in instructing the seminar attendees. Weidman is widely considered among the brightest young fighters in MMA, and recently improved his record to 7-0 with a first round Brabo choke victory over Tom Lawlor. The win was Weidman’s third under the UFC banner, following a submission-of-the-night guillotine choke against Jesse Bongfeldt, and a debut victory by unanimous decision in which Weidman filled in as a late replacement and halted the three-fight winning streak of Alessio Sakara. In addition to attending the seminar and sharing tips and tricks from his impressive submission grappling arsenal, Weidman will be donating signed items to the upcoming fundraising auction. The auction will feature items from many UFC fighters as well as professional athletes from other sports, including the Philadelphia Phillies’ Shane Victorino. Follow the DJM Foundation blog and twitter for the latest developments as the auction nears. We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Weidman for his contributions. For more information on Weidman, check out his web site, twitter and facebook page.

The Toughest Miller isn’t in the UFC...Yet

Introducing the Daniel James Miller Foundation As many in the MMA community now know, UFC Middleweight Dan Miller and his wife have endured more pain and loss than a parent should ever have to with the passing of their first child and now their son, Danny Jr., battling a potentially fatal disease known as Polycystic Kidney Disease. While Danny is now scheduled for a transplant which will allow him to come off dialysis for the first time, the costs of the surgery for his living donor and Danny's anti-rejection medication are high. Friends and family of the Millers have set up a foundation in Danny's name and fundraising is beginning with an MMA seminar December 3rd in Whippany, NJ in order to help raise the money needed to let Danny finally live the normal life every child deserves. I encourage you to visit the page and read up on Danny and PKD. A non-profit organization is accepting tax-deductable donations for those who can not attend the seminar and the blog will be updated in the coming weeks with information about UFC-worn gear and autographed memorabilia up for auction and raffle. Every donation plays a part in helping change a child’s life for the better. This fanshot was front paged by Tim Burke (who will be donating - you should too).
