The California State Athletic Commission has assigned "Big" John McCarthy as a judge, but not a referee, for WEC 46 in Sacramento on January 10th: This will be the first Zuffa event McCarthy has participated in since the TUF 6 Finale two years ago. "Both McCarthy and UFC would have been informed today of the assignment. McCarthy can decline the assignment if he wishes." This Fan Shot was promoted to the front page by Nick Thomas. Dave Meltzer With An Interesting Quote: "True story. A notable head of a major athletic commission talked to a notable head of a major fight company whose athletes were rampantly using steroids and suggested for the good of the company and the sport, they should test everyone themselves one month out. The ones that fail, they should announce that they are injured, because in training, everyone is really injured, get a legit diagnosis of the injury, and pull them out of the fight, that way they don't have guys suspended. Not that this has anything to do with anything this week."

Armando Garcia now works for the Ferrtittas according to Graciefighter.com: "When California first legalized MMA, Armando Garcia, was the Commissioner that would preside in the early years of the growing sport. He was a controversial figure, often criticized for his debatable rulings and treatment of fledgling shows. In fact there were multi-million dollar lawsuits filed against him that blamed him for destroying their productions. EliteXC and many other shows were publicly critical of his constant meddling." ..."'We're still cleaning up the mess Armando left us' said one CSAC official." "So what became of our colorful Commissioner? Well after seeing him 2nd row at a recent WEC we became a bit curious until we found him. Armando Garcia is now head of security at the Boulder Station Casino in Las Vegas, officially working for the Fertittas in Nevada." HT: graciefighter.com

Bad news, War Gods fans - it looks like UFC veteran "Cabbage" Correira won't be headlining that May 30th show after all. The MMA Insider Blog reports: Wesley "Cabbage" Correira, who bailed on his recent fight in Fresno at the Ken Shamrock-promoted "War Gods," got a post-event present he probably didn't want. The UFC and Rumble on the Rock veteran's pre-fight drug test came back positive for marijuana, registering a staggering 700 ng/mL of the drug in his system. As [Assistant Executive Officer of the CSAC Bill] Douglas earlier told MMAInsider, "anything above 50 ng/mL is a truely active user." Correira's suspension is retroactive to the missed fight and runs until Aug. 12, 2009. He is also fined $1,000.
