Akihiro Gono (32-15-7) will drop to 155 pounds for the first time in his 16-year MMA career when he faces Mongolia's
Jadamba Narantungalag (4-2) at SRC 14 on August 22nd.
Gono - who recently parted ways with his longtime home gym of Grabaka - told reporters at today's press conference that he hasn't weighed in at 70kg since he was 16 years old. He also said that his current weight is 77kg (169 lbs.) and that he plans to make the cut with the help of a professional nutritionist.
Narantungalag has competed for K-1 MAX (most notably being
KO'd by "Kid" Yamamoto in his 2004 MMA debut) and trains with retired sumo yokozuna Asashoryu's new fight team.
Also announced for the card was a welterweight grand prix reserve bout between
Motoki Miyazawa (6-2) and
Takuya Sato (5-3-2).
