Re: UFC 86 Main Card Prospects
I want it to be Cote vs. Almeida and it will be Cote vs. Almeida. Its only a matter of time before one of these guys gets a title shot.  It will be Okami then the winner of this match up, I think.

Re: UFC 86 Main Card Prospects
I expect that, if he can put another solid win together, Nate Marquardt will probably get another title shot.  Considering his domination of Horn - who was, yes, very rusty and kinda disinterested - and the number of people saying Marquardt just choked against Silva, he'll probably get another shot while they test Cote and Almeida a little further.

Especially Cote's ground game.  I mean, he got TKO'd by a sheet of ice. ba-dum-bum

Re: UFC 86 Main Card Prospects
Both Cote v. Almeida and Griffin v. Aurelio will be on the main card. I don't understand why anyone would feel that only one of those matches could/should make the main card; they are both pretty great.

Steve, I think the winner of Cote v. Almeida is still probably one win away from a title shot, especially if it's Almeida. Maybe they do the winner of this match against the winner of Marquardt v. Leites. Whoever wins (as long as it's not Marquardt) will look like the most viable contender this side of Matt Lindland.

Re: UFC 86 Main Card Prospects
I agree with everything you just said. Both of those fights are excellent and obviously main card material.  And the winner of Almeida/Cote vs. the winner of Marquardt/Leites would be a pretty strong contender (even if it is Marquardt).

Re: UFC 86 Main Card Prospects
There is a chance one of these fights won't make the main card. The potential main card already appears as follows:

Rampage vs Forrest
Koscheck vs Lytle
Mir vs McCully
Stevenson vs Tibau
Griffin vs Aurelio
Almeida vs Cote

There's only room for 5. Honestly, I say they start promising 6 fights. What the hell.

Re: UFC 86 Main Card Prospects
Kos/Lytle is the least interesting, I guess.

Re: UFC 86 Main Card Prospects
UFC just ran a card that featured six bouts scheduled for the television broadcast. Of course, with Fight Night 13 being on Spike, these fights had to fit into three hours along with commercial interruptions. On PPV, commercials are less of an issue, and with the sponsorship of Bud Light, they may be a non-issue (no more movie trailers, etc. with the new sponsorship money coming in, perhaps).

Re: UFC 86 Main Card Prospects
Rampage vs Forrest
Koscheck vs Lytle
Mir vs McCully
Stevenson vs Tibau
Griffin vs Aurelio
Almeida vs Cote

Out of these choices, I would probably put Stevenson vs Tibau on the unaired portion. Rampage vs Forrest is a given. Both Koscheck and Lytle had very impressive victories in their last fights. The heavyweight division needs more contenders and the winner of this bout could be moving up the ladder. IF HW division was fine as it is, I would probably have picked this one instead. Griffin goes all out everytime. And both guys also won their last fights. Almeida vs Cote will showcase a very good style matchup, striker vs grappler. Stevenson vs Tibau is probably the least important in terms of marketing the divisions and fighters. There are so many good 155'ers right now and these two just lost their last fights.
